It's funny how the UK's "mountains" just don't seem like much at all when you get back to the Cascades. Ben Nevis, the tallest in the UK at just over 4000', is the most extreme one there. But here in Washington, there are easily 100 peaks over 4000'. Today my Dad and I took the kids up Winchester Mt up near Mount Baker. It's a good one for the kids because we can drive (4x4 required) up to about 5000' and it's a relatively short (and clearly enjoyable) climb up to the peak at 6521'. Furthermore, there's a neat fire lookout cabin at the top with a 360 degree view -- unreal beauty.
