Dirt Jumping Tip #82

Always clear away stinging nettles from the areas where you're jumping!!  I was building at my new local spot today, and just not real smooth in the air. I ate shit twice (nice soft sandy landings!) but the first time I went face first into a bush of stinging nettles. My face still hurts! No, I wasn't my full-face helmut. Yes it could have been avoided if I had been, and yes it could have been much worse.

Where From Here?

Ok, so now I'm jobless .. what's the next project? Good question. I think I'm good at focusing business plans for startups ... in other words, taking a shotgun blast and making it more like a rifle shot (see related post). I enjoy the consumer Internet space. I have 11 years experience growing startups from nothing to profitability. I know what investors look for and how they think.

I have a couple business ideas kicking around in my head (at varying degrees of being thought through), but I'm not ready to start another company ... not just yet. Inevitably though, I know that's what I will do. Seems the best course for now is to jump into a few projects and use my skills/experience to their benefit. (I've got a number of close personal contacts who have asked for my "involvement".) I just need to make sure expectations are set correctly upfront, so they know I'm not ready yet to jump into anything long-term.

Dirt Jumping Tip #5

Do not begin to push your front-end down to the transition (landing zone) unless you're sure the front tire is going to clear it.  You should know or make the judgement call right at the apex of your height -- easier said than done. If you're not sure, bail FAST otherwise you'll land like this poor shmuck at http://www.big-boys.com/articles/bikewind.html. It's happened to everyone who's jumped proper doubles, and it hurts. That's actually how I broke my thumb in May.
