Just catching up on a bunch of RSS feeds, which of course led me to a number of TechCrunch pages where I noticed that TC has churned just about all of it's advertisers since last month. One exception is Edgeio, but I think that's the company Arrington is the founder of.
Just as I predicted, this advertising can't last. The click-through rates must be dreadful, and I'm sure the advertisers are NOT seeing a positive ROI on their spend. I heard it was like $10K/month to stick a 125x125 up there ... incredible. All this Web 2.0 excitement is getting out of hand, I feel like sometimes.
The long tail of advertisers needs to see a positive ROI ... period.
